The Aim
Beyond Skin's creative legacies programme will build on our previous and current work in East Belfast also previous and ongoing work carried out by other Arts & Community groups/individuals.
This Creative Legacies programme will help to increase the awareness and understandings of different communities, faiths and heritage that exist in the area.
Sectarianism and racism and other forms of intolerance are caused by a varied and complex set of parameters; however, many of these problems have emanated from patterns of segregation in society, mistrust between communities, exclusion and marginalisation, and a lack of citizenship and participation in civil networks.
Divided spaces, lack of cultural education and a growing ethnic diversity presents challenges for achieving greater integration and citizenship within an increasingly diverse society. These challenges are highlighted by the increasing number of racially-motivated crimes and incidents in recent years. This programme whilst exploring culture, heritage and diversity will also enrich the arts output of East Belfast leading towards greater creativity and artistic value of the area.
The Belfast East Creative Legacy programme will use physical and digital art to represent the outcomes of various programs and will assist the development of an online archive and public art pieces.
The process of building cultural relations and assisting cultural education will involve music, art, poetry, spoken word, multimedia, dance, radio and personal development initiatives.
Ravenlink Woman's Group, Chinese Welfare Association, Zmn Productions & Sinful Design are the primary partners who will assist Beyond Skin in the development, implementation, monitoring and marketing of the Creative Legacy programme.
The Creative Legacy programme is core funded through Belfast City Council Culture & Arts unit under the Special EU Programmes Body Peace III fund.
